Care Guide
Your Cubby Casa furniture is crafted from natural materials that bring warmth and character to your home. Because each piece is made from wood, stone, cane, or fabric, a little routine care goes a long way. Follow the guidance below to keep your furniture looking its best for years to come.
Mango Wood
Mango wood has a rich grain that varies naturally from piece to piece. To clean, wipe with a soft, slightly damp cloth and dry immediately — never leave water sitting on the surface. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, bleach, and abrasive pads. Keep mango wood furniture away from direct sunlight and heat sources such as radiators, as prolonged exposure can cause the finish to fade or the wood to crack. Maintain indoor humidity between 40–60 % to minimise expansion and contraction. Apply a wood-friendly wax or furniture oil occasionally (every 6–12 months) to nourish the wood and maintain its sheen.
Sheesham Wood (Indian Rosewood)
Sheesham is a dense, durable hardwood with a naturally high oil content. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth with a mild soap solution and wipe dry straight away. Avoid placing sheesham pieces in direct sunlight for extended periods, as UV exposure can alter the warm honey or walnut tones over time. Keep away from air-conditioning vents and heating sources. If the wood begins to look dry, condition it with a small amount of teak or linseed oil applied with a soft cloth, then buff off any excess.
Acacia Wood
Acacia is known for its striking grain patterns and natural durability. Wipe clean with a soft, damp cloth; dry thoroughly after cleaning. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. Acacia can develop small surface checks (hairline cracks) if exposed to very dry conditions or extreme temperature changes — this is a normal characteristic of natural wood and does not affect structural integrity. Place your piece away from direct sunlight and heat vents. An occasional application of furniture wax or food-safe mineral oil (for dining surfaces) helps protect the wood and enhance its appearance.
Cane & Rattan
Cane and rattan furniture is lightweight and breathable, making it well-suited to a range of living spaces. Dust with a soft brush or a vacuum on a low setting to remove debris from the weave. Wipe the frame with a lightly damp cloth and allow to air-dry completely — moisture trapped in the weave can lead to mould or weakening of the fibres over time. Keep cane pieces out of direct, prolonged sunlight, which can dry out and bleach the fibres. Indoor humidity between 40–60 % helps cane stay supple and prevents brittleness. Avoid placing heavy objects on cane seats or shelves beyond the product's stated load capacity.
Marble
Marble surfaces add elegance but require thoughtful care. Wipe spills immediately with a soft, absorbent cloth — marble is porous and acidic liquids (lemon juice, wine, vinegar) can etch the surface if left to sit. For routine cleaning, use a damp cloth with a small amount of pH-neutral soap; rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use vinegar-based, bleach-based, or abrasive cleaners. Avoid placing very hot items (pots, pans, or mugs) directly on marble without a coaster or trivet. Direct sunlight over long periods may cause subtle discolouration on some marble types. A marble-specific sealant applied periodically can help protect the surface — follow the sealant manufacturer's instructions.
Upholstered Surfaces
Check the care label on your specific piece for fibre content and any manufacturer symbols. For routine maintenance, vacuum upholstery on a low setting using an upholstery attachment to remove dust and debris. Blot spills immediately with a clean, dry cloth — do not rub, as this can spread the stain or work it deeper into the fabric. For general spot cleaning, use a small amount of mild upholstery cleaner on a clean cloth; test in an inconspicuous area first. Keep upholstered pieces out of direct sunlight to reduce fading. Avoid using steam cleaners unless the care label specifically permits it. For cushion covers that are removable and machine-washable, wash on a gentle cold cycle and allow to air-dry before reattaching.
Low-VOC Finishes
Many Cubby Casa pieces are finished with low-VOC (low volatile organic compound) paints and lacquers, chosen for better indoor air quality. These finishes are durable but benefit from gentle care. Clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth; dry immediately. Avoid abrasive pads, harsh solvents, or spirit-based cleaners, which can strip or dull the finish. Do not place items treated with low-VOC finishes near high heat sources. If the finish chips or scratches, contact us for guidance before attempting a DIY touch-up, as matching the correct product is important for a consistent result.
General Tips for All Pieces
- Humidity: Aim to keep your home between 40–60 % relative humidity. Extremes — very dry or very humid conditions — can affect natural materials over time.
- Direct sunlight: Position furniture away from prolonged direct sunlight where possible. UV exposure can fade finishes, fabrics, and natural wood tones.
- Assembly hardware: Check and gently re-tighten any bolts, screws, or cam fittings every few months, especially for pieces that are moved or used frequently. Do not overtighten, as this can strip threads or crack wood. Keep any spare hardware from the original packaging.
- Coasters and trivets: Use them on all hard-surface tops to protect against heat, moisture rings, and scratches.
- Felt pads: Place felt pads under furniture feet to protect your flooring and reduce the risk of scratches when a piece is moved.
